Self-Direction 101: Your Role As a Facilitator In Partnering With Your Child

Self-Direction 101: Your Role As a Facilitator In Partnering With Your Child

The Big Question:

How does ‘facilitating’ support learning in a way traditional teaching cannot?

Your Challenge For The Week:

  1. Have a conversation with your child about partnering on their education. Ask them what hopes they have and how the idea of being a partner in the process makes them feel.
  2. Ask your child to tell you the #1 thing they would like to learn about (it can be anything!)…then dig in together! Be open, be flexible, follow your child’s lead and change directions if necessary. See if you can find resources to offer without becoming attached to any particular option.

Journal Prompt #1

What do you think will be your biggest challenge in partnering with your child? What do you think will be the biggest benefit?

Journal Prompt #2

How did you do on this week’s challenge?

*Notice the prompt asks about YOU, not your child.*
